PAINTINGS FOR THE BOOKPROJECT "TEMPLE OF MEDUSA"

Century Guild Museum of Art, USA

"What would Medusa look like if she were celebrated rather than feared?"

Century Guild Museum selected 30 artists to have their work published in a hardcover fine-art volume titled Temple of Medusa.

"Much like the sanctuaries built to house the likenesses of ancient Greek gods and goddesses. Temple of Medusa aims to create a similar shrine honoring this icon of world history. In contrast to the many renderings of Medusa's defeat that have been created throughout art history, what would a visual testament to Medusa's victory look like? If Medusa's temple were built today, what works of art would adorn it?"

ALLER - RETOUR / VENICE - OSTEND

Exhibition with drawings, paintings, sculptures and a book publication

One of the curators of the project is Jacqueline Guisset, Doctor of Letters and Philosophy

Venice – Ostend, two coastal cities that have been or are still regularly flooded.

Venice, a dream city with all its splendor – Ostend, a patchwork city in constant construction.

And yet, what makes them both so human?

This project has its origins in 2017, my first 'Round Trip / Venice-Ostend'.

Ostend is the city where I live and work. Venice is my dream city and as for many people, it was love at first sight. Back in my hometown, a first series of drawings in Indian ink was created. Venice has not let go of me since and mixes with Ostend in my brain and visual work.

Both cities experienced a great demographic dynamic, and yet, for one, it became a wealth while for the other, it led to a destruction of the architectural heritage.

Other Round Trips followed and follow...

My studio is located in an Art Nouveau building from the early 1900s. The facade is designed in the shape of a boat and decorated with all kinds of shell motifs, hence the name Theobalds Boothuisje. I like to play with the idea that I'm safe here from a future tidal wave. My ark, along with my entire crew consisting of paintings, statues, books, etc. can sail me to a new destination in need...
